The project team studied the Finnish experience

On February 5–6, 2019, to learn from the European experience in application of hazardous waste treatment technologies, representatives of the project team of the GEF-UNIDO project, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, Gomel toxic industrial waste treatment and disposal facility, BelVTI company, and construction and engineering organizations of the Gomel oblast visited several Finnish facilities.

At Fortum waste incineration plant in Riihimäki, Ekomo—the largest Scandinavian waste treatment facility—eco-industrial park in Espoo, EcoScandic in Helsinki, the delegation were granted the opportunity to study the operation of the Finnish waste collection system which allows treatment even of hazardous wastes, as well as examples of application of waste-to-energy and hazardous waste disposal technologies.
