Kazakhstan is learning how to properly dispose of waste and restore land – Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources

April 14, 2023. Astana. KazTAG – To ensure the sustainable disposal of waste containing persistent organic pollutants (POPs), the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan is implementing a joint project with the United Nations Organization for Sustainable Development, announced Mansur Oshurbayev, Director of the Department of State Policy and Waste Management at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

“To ensure the sustainable disposal of waste containing persistent organic pollutants (POPs), the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan is implementing a joint project with UNIDO to coordinate the disposal of ozone-depleting substances (ODS) and POPs in Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Armenia. UNIDO is donating equipment for the recycling of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and the thermal removal of ODS and POPs,” Oshurbayev said at the briefing.

The equipment has arrived in Kazakhstan and is undergoing a customs clearance procedure.
